Student Becomes Youngest Master in U.S. History
On November 19th, 2016, Christopher Yoo, a former Prodigy Program student stunned the chess world. He became the youngest-ever chess master in American history at the age of 9 years, 11 months, and 0 days breaking the previous record by Max Lu and also breaking older records by notable grandmasters such as Hikaru Nakamura and Bobby Fischer!
Christopher started his chess studies with Wei Liu at a very young age and quickly became fond of the game. Soon after, he started playing and practicing on Chess.com. In 2015, he enrolled in Chess University's Prodigy Program and benefited from structured learning. By studying in the Prodigy Program with FM Dalton Perrine and Kairav Joshi, and taking private lessons with NM Bruce Pandolfini and GM Melik Khachiyan, Christopher became a real chess prodigy and broke the record for youngest chess master EVER in America.
Now at the young age of 10 year, NM Christopher Yoo will start contributing to Chess University by offering simuls with commentary and creating other instructional content. He will play his first Chess University simul on Sunday, April 2nd, 2017 at 12:05 PM Pacific Time. This will be broadcasted live. We will update you with details regarding this very soon.
