blue shaded parts of the chess board

Anyone ever have this happen while in the middle of a game?

It won't change back and is very distracting

I know that chess.com has had issues in the past with Google Chrome, so switching to another internet browser might solve the problem.

I think this happens when you accidentally long click the whole board lke this:

It happened to me. You can change it back : select some areas of text ("Welcome to chess.com" for example) and then click somewhere else in the same window, as if to unselect the text. This unselects the board as well.

Hope this helps.

Yes, just click somewhere else on the window in order to remove shaded parts.

I don't think the cause of the blue shades is due to mouse highlighting.  If you look at the screenshot, it's not possible to highlight only the four specific shaded squares shown on the board with a single mouse drag.

I've had something similar happen a long time ago on an old computer.  The blue shades on the board did not appear every game, but when it did, refreshing the page was the only way I was able to get rid of it.  I either switched browsers or updated my flashplayer, after which I never saw the blue shades again.

No it was not caused by highlighting the board with the mouse. I have never had this problem with chrome before until this morning. All plugins are up to date and I am not using an old computer either. The only way to get rid of the blue highlighting was to remove the peice from the board. Even if the peice was moved the blue would not go away it would stay with the peice. The "blue" bishop that is shown on d3 Undecided was the only blue square left when I killed my opponents king. Not easy to play that way. It was confusing.

What happens if I lose because of something like that? Like it matters or anything but I just came back from a huge losing streak. My rating was as low as 1151 before I could get a grip on my game. Now it is up above 1300 and I would like to keep it that way.

I guess you can try reporting the game to chess.com, explaining the situation and asking them to restore the lost points.

Again, you should try using a different internet browser if this becomes a recurring issue.  Firefox maybe.

Are you saying this because it might sound like the reasonable thing to do, or are you saying that because you had to do that once and they were able to verify that you lost because of blue colored squares?

CaptJackAubrey

I have had this happen before but I just double clicked on the piece or right clicked. I am using IE9 so I don't know if that makes any difference.

Well, it's the only thing to do if you want your points to be restored.  It's doubtful that they'll actually do anything because, like you pointed out, it'll be hard to varify that this bug occured in the actual game.  However, there's nothing to lose in trying.  At the very least, they'll try to provide a possible solution to the problem.

No big deal.Undecided Hopefully it won't happen again.

Happened once again today. Going to ask for a draw.
