Kf2

Sometimes computers make crazy king moves like Kf2 (in the opening) for no apparent reason. Has anyone else seen the same behaviour? Has anyone figured out what the reason is for them? I guess it's that sometimes when white made f2-f3 then the king can be safe on f2 and the KR can stay on the h file?

I don't believe it is higher but I used to.

In unrelated news, unfortunately I forgot about the positions. I think I saw three of these Kf2 moves.

To answer the question, I have Rybka 2.3.2 or so and I understood that it's OK for not very good players like me. But I've also seen in one of the opening books "Fritz (11) prefers Kf2 but I don't think any human would play it at the table" or WTTE.

Kf2 is a good opening, its the Flying Kite variation of the Bongcloud system. I have used it often.

Centralize the King! For the endgame! Can't activate your pieces too soon :)

Kf2 looks kinky. I think black plays Kf7 more though...

At depth 12 Rybka 2.3.2a had Kf2 as its 2nd choice. To be fair, after depth 14 it went off the top 3. Is there any point at all to this move?

Similarly popular it seems to be with the machine after

8. d5-Bc8
9. Nf3-c6
10. Kf2?!

I don't see the point to it, especially when there's a strong move like d5 available.

Most of the engines had it in their top 4 at least until depth 15.   I don't know what the rules are here about discussing the IP* engines, so I won't mention names.

The importance of developing the king is lost on most human players.

one last question, what are the IP* engines and why is talking about them possibly illegal?
