EDIT: get_lost has the correct answer.

If it is Black to move, why not Qxg2#?  I don't see any piece that can capture the Black Queen, (the White King can not capture the Black Queen because of the Black Bishop on b7, even though it is pinned, the WK can not move into check); there is no way to interpose a piece between the WK and BQ, and the WK can not move out of check to a safe square.

Sorry, you guys are correct, I made an error in my diagram. I have adjusted it and I hope it is correct now. This puzzle was inspired by an actually game although the last move my opponent (playing Black) made was actually Qf7 to protect the g7 pawn...but the ending should have been similar except I messed up.

very fun! I like this a lot :-) Couldn't have done it without seeing the board though

Loomis

Of course, it's mate in 7, not 13.

Did I mess up again and miss a faster solution?

Nah, but you did it the strange way where each turn was 1 move, so a black and a white turn would be two moves, instead of one move being "white + blacks turn" (two turns; one move)
