Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess

The value of the book focuses on the beginners needs when first learning the game.
It grasps the fundamental chess tactics before moving to other aspect of the game.
The format of the book is structured learning course, using a series of chess excercises that help gain a clear understanding of the concepts.

The book begins by explaining how the pieces move and capture, then quickly moves on to very basic checkmate tactics. The exercises start with relatively simple scenarios, then progress in complexity in order to reinforce the reader's comprehension and build up his/her level of tactical sophistication.

I have recommended this book to many players new to the game, and to a person they all agree that this was a great book to begin learning chess..

50 Poison Pieces: Solve 50 Puzzles

Where the Unprotected Piece Is Toxic

This book explains the consequences and counter chances their opponent may have for getting material gains on the board.
It creates awareness in the reader. It is a good book when giving chess lesson for groups of beginners in of not just for themselves, but opponent.
The only criticism is that when considering what to do besides eat a poison piece, the choices are between one good option, and profoundly disastrous one. Then again, at least it also gets readers to generate thoughts about what to do besides simply not taking the poison. Well presented, methodical and large print for easy consumption.

How to Reassess Your Chess A Complete Course to Chess Mastery, 3rd Expanded Edition

How to Reassess Your Chess is the popular step-by-step course that will create a marked improvement in anyone's game. In clear, direct language, Silman shows how to dissect a position, recognize its individual parts and ultimately find the move that conforms to the needs of that particular situation. By explaining the thought processes that go into a master's choice of move, the author presents a system of thought that makes advanced strategies seem clear, logical and at times even obvious. How the Reassess Your Chess offers invaluable knowledge and insight that cannot be found in any other book.

If you are around 1600 USCF rating , then probably it will be suitable for you. but I recommend you first read his another book " Amateure's mind " , then go for that big tome ! Silman himself recommends that first read first 56 pages of this ......then put aside this and pick up that one !

Logical Chess: Move by Move

This book is aimed at the beginner. It offers the elementary positional thinking. I find it usually and entertaining.
For instance, Chernev's discussion of the Colle System helped me reorient my thinking. I often characterize as "passive-aggressive" opening choices where White seems to eschew the initiative (and yet I play the Reti!). The Colle is one of those systems likely to provoke my contempt. While studying a couple of games in Logical Chess, however, I gained some respect for the system. My disavantage was replaced by logical consideration of the strategic ideas.
A notable characteristic of Logical Chess: Move by Move, is the literary effort needed to explain the same moves repeatedly in new ways. How much can one say concerning the merits of 1.e4? Chernev keeps his comments instructive and entertaining without merely repeating what he has already said concerning moves that appeared in another game earlier in the book. The core principles are repeated, but in new language.

How to Beat your Dad at Chess

"Chandler does a nice job of using basic examples to improve ones game. In this way, the reader begins to understand how complicated positions can be into their more basic components. This is a fun book that will help many players, either as a basic starting point in the study of checkmate tactics or as a refresher. I found several positions of interest as I worked through the book, and I think it will be of particular value to players up through class C. Younger players will also likely find it enjoyable.

The Amateur's Mind: Turning Chess Misconceptions into Chess Mastery

This book takes the student on a journey through his own mind and returns him to the chess board with a wealth of new-found knowledge and the promise of a significant gain in strength. Most amateurs possess erroneous thinking processes that remain with them throughout their chess lives. These flaws in their mental armor result in stinging defeats and painful reversals. Books can be bought and studied, lessons can be taken -- but in the end, these elusive problems always prove to be extremely difficult to eradicate. Seeking a solution to this dilemma, the author wrote down the thoughts of his students while they played actual games, analysed them, and  the most common misconceptions that arose. This second edition greatly expands on the information contained in the popular first edition.
