Road to the Grandmaster title - GM Ramesh RB joins me as a Mentor
I am very happy to announce, after 23 years I am again studying with a coach. Actually with a wonderful coach!
GM Ramesh RB is a great person, humble and has a great sense of humour.
He was the official commentator for the Anand vs Carlsen World chess Championship Match, 2013. Founded ChessGurukul in 2008. He is the former British chess champion in 2002 and commonwealth chess champion in 2007, whose students have won 45 Gold medals in World events and has produced many great talents, including Praggnanandhaa. He is a Senior FIDE trainer and has served as the coach of the Indian Olympiad team during 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018 during which India won historic Bronze medal in the 2014 Chess Olympiad at Thrompso, Norway. He is the author of Chess Fundamentals: Logical Decision Making
and an extensive video course for the Nurtr platform. Ramesh convincingly won the award for FIDE’s Junior Trainer of the Year in 2018, from a jury consisting of four former World Champions among others.
He decided to accept me as a student and teach me in open LIVE coaching sessions on his twitch channel at https://www.twitch.tv/gmrameshrb where anybody can watch our study sessions and can ask questions in the chat.
I think this is a great possibility for everyone to enjoy and improve chess!
Our first session was on Friday, 18th December 2020.
He asked me questions about my chess background and gave me exercises to test my thinking process and abilities.
You can watch the full session on his youtube channel at https://www.youtube.com/user/rbramesh1 or on his twitch channel at https://www.twitch.tv/gmrameshrb
He gave me these 3 puzzles to solve. In the first one the bishop fought against the knight:
The second was a middlegame puzzle:
After the 2 puzzles and around 2 hours of discussions and answering questions from the viewers he asked if they and me want one more puzzle and of course I said YES!
The last one was really hard for me:
He was teaching a lot about how to select candidate moves, how to prioritize the calculation and many things about chess improvement. When I was trying to find the solutions he answered lot of viewer questions.
I am very blessed to have him as my mentor. I give my best to follow his advise and do the homework he gives me. After the 1st lesson he suggested me to solve daily at least 2 endgame studies from Leonid Kubbel and take 30 minutes per puzzle if needed. Try to find all the moves until the end. Quality os more important than quantity.
