This list of tips are from Magnus Carlsen and a few from my self. Some of my viewers my know that my blog was not always public, and back then, I shared my best tip. If you don't know it, you'll have to wait and see. It worked for me to beat a player rated 400 points higher than I am.

These aren't really specific strategies in chess. It's more like a good chess work ethic, and how to practice and prepare without overdoing it. Things like that. Here is Magnus giving tips, before I share mine on how to be like him.

I don't know how this man is the arguably the best chess player ever, manages a YouTube channel, manages two apps, and still lives his life. Magnus is a one in 7 billion person.

Tip #1: You can learn from every game you play, wins, losses, and draws.

I have to agree with this one. I remember getting checkmated with a trap in a tournament, and later using that trap 4 times in the next week. It is easiest to learn from your losses. Another way is to use the chess.com analysis in for almost every if not every game you play.

I often use the Play Magnus App to prepare for tournaments. I beat 10 year old Magnus once. I put 26 year old Magnus playing against the fritz chess engine and he won on GM difficulty.

TIP #3: Take regular breaks from chess. Train your body, as well as your mind.

Get plenty of rest, eat healthy, and take breaks from chess, especially when preparing for a tournament.

TIP #4: Have fun while playing chess.

This is definitely the most important tip. If you don't have fun, well than to play chess. Chess is supposed to be a fun way to train your brain.

Tip #5: Expand your horizons.

He doesn't mean to get I better view of the horizon, like looking across water or something. He means to try different openings instead of just mastering one.

Tip #6: Challenge your brain in more ways than just chess.

If you do to much of one puzzle, it can become boring. Try doing Sudoku or Rumikub. They are both games that improve your problem solving skills.

Sleep might be the most important factor in chess, sports, and even just being a happy person.

Tip #8: Eat and drink well.

His favorite drink is orange juice mixed with water.

Tip #9: Learn from watching others.

Harvard did a study and found out that the best way to get better at chess is to watch games of very strong players such as Carlsen.
