500 elo?
Everyone starts their chess journey somewhere.
This is at the rating 400. But not everyone is as skilled. Most of us beginners would probably lose their first games and drop down to the lowest rating possible, 100 Elo. At least this is how it started for me on July 13, 2024. But over experience, we start winning games. This brings our rating up, for example to 200 or 300 Elo. Then you win and lose games. Then your rating would probably end up around 359..., whatever. But here's the thing: the higher rating you have, the tougher it is to win. Generally, players with a rating of 100 are not as good as a person at 800 Elo, or 1000 Elo. Since grandmasters are very good, their rating is like 2000, 3000, and even more! Keep in mind rating is different in each game mode. That means if you have a rating of 470 in rapid, you could also have a rating of 200 in blitz, or bullet. I'm more of a rapid player, but that doesn't mean I don't play blitz or bullet. I still play a little bit (mostly for league trophies.) But by talking about this we are avoiding the whole entire reason you probably clicked on this blog.
500 Elo. It is the middle class in chess. That is the change point between pros and noobs. Sort of "mediocre". Let me begin talking about my journey and experience as 500 Elo. Just a week ago, I was hovering over the 370 - 380 rating range. Then, I started winning lots and lots of games. Now I entered the 400 Elo range, and I was very happy because I was finally getting better. My peak went all the way to 547 Elo. Now here is where things get serious. When I continued playing, I realized that 500 Elo players are pretty good. Now I was starting to struggle. I dropped to 459. But now I stand at a steady 474. I hope to reach 1000 one day. Everyone has their moment. The moral of this? Don't get overconfident.
