Playoffs? Did you say, Playoffs?

Playoffs? Did you say, Playoffs?

This week the Blitz continue their arduous journey back to the top as they face long time foe, The Baltimore Kingfishers.  True, we will run out of matches long before we ever catch the third place team, (big) BUT, we could catch Philadelphia for fourth place in the Eastern division if we win our remaining two matches and they lose their remaining two matches.
Now,  "What good does that do?", you ask.  Well, it turns out that the fourth team in the division that does best in "Interdivision matches" (game point wise) will qualify for the playoffs...  and it turns out that the Eastern Division is only 1 game behind the Western division in this race... and two ahead of the Southern division. Huh?  So, you're saying there's a chance?
Naahh!  What are the odds of all this happening? Not very good.  Here is what we need to root for...

1. The Blitz win their last two matches with big scores
2. Philly loses big... ergo we tie with them and beat them out by game points for 4th place.
3. The rest of the Eastern division does a good job in interdivison matches and we beat out the Western division.

So, you may ask,  "What if the Eastern Division ties in interdivision game points with the Western division?".  In that rare case, the Blitz are sitting pretty, as there will be a knock-down, drag-out mud wrestling event between the respective 4th place teams,  and we all know that the Blitz support the chess team with their mud wrestling income.

Based on everything I know about the system and having consulted with several top statisticians, the Blitz have a 0.3892% chance to make the playoffs.  I even rounded down so as not to raise the Blitz fans' hopes too much.
But, that is not our goal... we want to win it all.  The odds of the Blitz making the playoffs and winning it all?  Simple, just cube the previous percent chance.

So, I'm saying there's a chance!
And if you don't come down to watch this next match, you may just miss out on a big part of Boston Blitz history.  And now it's (hardly) ever-accurate match prediction time.
