“Winning isn’t everything.  It’s the only thing.”,  Vince Lombardy on his first day of Green Bay Packer’s training camp.  No, he didn’t invent the saying, but, he did make winners out of losers.  Ilya gave such a speech before round 6.  I think he said, “Winning Good!  Losing Bad!” or words to that effect.  And whatya know.  The Blitz won their first match against the Miami Sharks,

Boston (3.5 – 0.5).

And no, it wasn’t a blow out.  Miami was in it all the way.  In fact, they were winning easily on boards 1 and 4 at points.  Ah, but before the endgame, the Gods have placed time pressure.  And now, we’re on a roll… a big fat sesame seeded, buttered, roll.  Heck, we were nominated for our third GOTW in a row.  A wonderful game played by our returning hero, Vadim “Death on f6” Martirosov.  Believe me, you don’t want to miss this beautiful combination, 18. Ne4…, so smooth, so light, yet… filling.  Let’s take a peak…

See what I mean.  Now wasn’t this the real GOTW.  They just couldn’t give us three in a row.  Boston (1.0)

Now, it was Denys’s turn.  He complicated, he was worse, he was better, and he complicated some more.  A draw was not an option.  What a fight.  I’m sure you’ll agree.

Let’s here it for Knights against Bishops.  Was Fischer right, or what?  Nice game Denys.

Boston (2 – 0)

Next up,  Bobby’s ghost invaded the body of top Board Steven “I know this variation 22 moves deep” Zierk.  But, boy the oops endgame that results.  One teensy weensy mistake and your just lost.  This was a heart-pounder.  Bobby must have left before the endgame.

So, you say… Now I’ve seen everything.  IMs and GMs do make mistakes.  Well, a win is a win… and remember our motto… Winning is the only thing.  Boston (3 – 0)

This left our newest addition (and a good one if this game is any augury), Andrew “What me lose?” Hoy.  Certainly, I thought he was losing… I just didn’t have faith… I’m sorry… 10 Queen’s gambit declineds and 5 Hail Morras… I have seen the light.  You will too!

Wow!  That was exciting.  And silly.  But, more exciting I think.  Boston (3.5 – 0.5)

Ok, now back to that roll we’re on.  It will continue.

Wednesday, 7:30 pm, at the BCC.  Be there or be square as the Blitz take on the Manhattan Applesauce with their most innovative lineup yet.  Facing two GMs and outrated on boards 1 through 3, can they pull a rabbit out of the hat?
