They Say Icarus Laughed As He Fell
They say Icarus laughed as he fell
He felt the sun's warmth
but alas he flew too close
and its warmth became a burn he could not escape
So he fell
And laughed at the feeling
Falling away from such a harsh love
Fell and there was no one to catch him
The ocean received him instead
He felt his burns sting then cool with the ocean water
He didn't bother to swim
Why would he?
He had been burned
The water felt cool and soothing
Caressing him in its depths when no other could
His melted wings that spoke of freedom
That showed him the sun
They now dragged him down
The few feathers he had left fluttered in the currents
And he saw the wonderful colors of the sea
It was too late for him now
So for one last time
In a place for others impossible to be
He spread his arms
Closed his eyes
Smiled
And then
Icarus flew.
