Traveling across the country to a chess tournament was something I often did in my younger years.  This week I have returned to this activity with a trip to the 122nd U.S. Open being held in Palm Springs, California.

This is my first trip to Palm Springs that I can remember. I could spend a lot of time talking about how hot it is, but I will keep the story short and just say, I am in the desert.

The U.S. Open is always one of my favorite national events because it is most like international tournaments with a long schedule and most rounds are played once a day.

The slower time control and pace allows for plenty of non-chess related activities around town and sight-seeing.

More information can be found on the U.S. Open here.
