The top 10 worst chess openings!
I will be counting down from 10 so number 10 is the 10th worst opening and number 1 is the worst opening.
10. Réti Opening: Ross Gambit
As you can see, you just lose your e pawn and never get it back. Also you get no control over the center and your development is as slow as a turtle. If you look at the position for a long time, you could think of a way to take some central control and develop quickly but even if you do, you are still just losing your e pawn.
9. King's Pawn Opening: Knight, Irish Gambit
You will be surprised to see how many people play this, there are advanced ideas that never work. People also say you don't even notice your knight is wrong. There are not a set of flaws but still, losing a knight for a pawn is awful.
8. Exchange French
Definitely a terrible opening, you trade your d pawn the controlled the center. By pushing that pawn instead of taking, you still maintain central control while keeping your pawn safe. You can continue the game normally, but you have no attack. You are basically playing with no aggression even though you are white. Even if you are a passive player, this ruins the whole point of playing as white.
7. Sodium Attack
Terrible opening, with the real only point is to go Nc4. This is a pointless opening (even with the Nc4 idea) because you waste 2 moves moving your knight, allowing black to take full center and quickly develop. And if you don't do that a knight on a3 only controls the sides when knights moving towards the center have control over the center and the side.
6. Van Geet Opening (Dunst Opening)
I have a very controversial opinion about this opening. I think blocking the c pawn can really damage your plans. In addition to that, playing the Van Geet allows black to go d4 or e4 while in the Réti Opening black can't play e4. Finally, people say that you can just push one of your center pawns and make it a different opening, but what was the point of playing the Van Geet in the first place then?
5. Kings Gambit Accepted: Tumbleweed Variation
I have no clue why this even is a thing. This opening is awful because know you can't castle and you put your king in danger. In addition to that it is not as funny as the bongcloud because the bongloud is a good opening to fool around and draw games with but this can be much more difficult because black does not have to go through the same things as you do.
4. Kádas Opening: Schneider Gambit
There are 4 awful things about this opening. 1. You lose a pawn. 2. You open up the h file for white. 3. You weaken your king safety. 4. You can't move your knight unless you get rid of that pawn or movie infant of your king and I did not even go into detail about those things. I was considering moving it up but some of the other openings are even worse.
3. Giuoco Piano Game: Jerome Gambit
An absolute terrible opening. You lose your knight and your bishop for 2 pawns in hopes black gets mated early because black's king is not safe. Unless you're playing a new born, this opening sucks. I don't really need to say anymore, why is this even an opening.
2. Grob Opening: Alessi Gambit.
Some people might say I am being harsh, but this opening is awful. If someone plays the Grob, take advantage of that and put them into dangerous positions. Don't make your king less safe than their's. With a few mistakes you can lose the game very quickly. It is not the opening that makes it the second worse (only half), it is that when someone plays the Grob and an opening manages to weaken your king more than their's, the opening is terrible.
1. Grob Opening: Double Grob, Coca-Cola Gambit
This is the worst opening I have ever seen. First white plays the Grob which is an awful opening on its one but then white responds with one of the worst responses by going g5. Then White chooses the worst response after g5 which is f4. Both sides weaken their king (especially white). Again with a few mistakes you can lose very quickly.
Ok, so that was my top 10 list and I hope you enjoyed. This took over 2 weeks to make trying to find all the worst opening I could and then type it all. Comment if you agree or disagree with this list and what would you change. By the way if I made a few grammar issues, I don't care. Don't rant in the comments that I messed up some wording or used the wrong punctuation. Thank you, bye!
