Lethal Traps: #7- Englund Gambit Trap
Hey, you! Yeah, YOU! Welcome back to Lethal Traps! Here is one of my favorite chess traps: The Englund Gambit Trap. With this trap, Black can write a 0-1 on their notation sheet in just 8 moves! Let's do it!
Let's analyze.
First, this opening is weird. It has many tactics that all start with Black losing a pawn. However, not many people play this opening, giving you an early advantage.
Secondly, White should play 6. Nc3 instead of moving the bishop to c3. Nc3 not only develops, but it also allows the queen to defend the rook. (Note: on White's 4th move, any bishop move except Bd2 will work.)
Thirdly, how often do you see a bishop pinned... by ANOTHER BISHOP? Then again, it's White's most sensible move. After all, if White doesn't defend, he loses... A ROOK! (couldn't resist. lol)
Finally, 8. Nxc3 is White's best move, only losing a rook (at least) altogether. But Qxc3 creates a grim fate for White with 8... Qc1#. Game. Over.

Autumn (what a weird spelling. why don't I just call it Fall at this point? lol) is coming. Stay nice and warm this icy season with some hot chocolate, a blanket, and a chessboard!
Now, have a good day, or, at least, what's left of it.
