My March Mistakes

My March Mistakes

In this article, I’ll share with you all my biggest mistakes of last month.

Last year, I decided to work on a new plan for improvement and started analyzing many of my own games to determine what are my biggest weaknesses. The results gave me a very detailed insight in everything I’m doing wrong, but not very much actionable insights. That's why I'm changing my strategy and trying something else. Instead of a thorough analysis, I'm going to keep it simple and focus on the mistakes that mattered most.

Let's get into it!

Opening Oops

Game #1 mvaseckis vs Duckfest

The best way to show you where I went wrong and I how I got punished is to show you the crucial moment as a puzzle from my opponent's perspective. What is the brilliant move that crushed me?

After my opponent took me by surprise I immediately panicked. Terrible play by me. Full game:

Multiple Mistakes

Game #2 Duckfest vs Baihoi85

Opening was good until I got my Bishop trapped. I fought back and messed up again.

Game #3 Mtn_Dew vs Duckfest

This game could have gone either way, but I made some bad decisions in the late middle game.

Game #4 Duckfest vs cla103

This one was painful, I really really tried to get back in the game with counterplay but my opponent spotted all my tactics.

Simply Stupid

Game #5 Duckfest vs BleakErebus

Not much to say, I hung a piece for no reason.

Wondering Why Did I?

Game #6 Duckfest vs adammansour01

This was a Blitz game, so it's easier to make mistakes, but I have no explanation for my push with e4 on move 12.

Positions to Ponder

Game #7 Duckfest vs corum

Most interesting game by far. It was a great game to play and a very instructive game for me to analyze afterwards. I've seldom been so wrong about the positional evaluations and which side is better than the other.

Position to evaluate

White to move. What do you think of the position. How is better and by how much? What you guess that the engine evaluation is?

Another position to evaluate

White to move. What do you think of the position. How is better and by how much? What you guess that the engine evaluation is?

Game #8 Duckfest vs Iglojimmy

Terrible tactics by me in the middle game.

Game #9 TinDog vs Duckfest

The crucial position was this one. What would you play here?

I don't feel bad about this one. It was a decent game against a stronger opponent. I simply got outplayed. Full game:
