Introduction

Introduction
The chess game was invented many years ago but it wasn’t the same all the time. Through centuries, regions and religions the game was evolving, new rules were introduced and many changes were made to the original game invented in India. But still there was something I didn’t like much about classic chess rules. Here I will try to explain changes I have made for the game to make it more active, balanced and probably more enjoyable for playing.

The board
The first thing I didn’t like about classic chess was rules of castling. Castling to the left and to the right are not symmetrical in classic chess and I consider it as a problem. So a new board and new setup was invented. Now the board is 7x7. This allowed to place pieces in symmetric order like this:

No double move for pawns

Since the board became smaller the long move of pawns became unnecessary. This rule was introduced about 200 years ago to make the opening run faster. It was pretty boring to wait until pawns will occupy important fields. So, Europeans invented this rule. In Chess++ I am canceling this rule. There is no need for that.

Strong bishop (elephant)

Originally this one was an elephant and it was a very strong piece. Then this piece became a bishop and became much weaker, almost like a knight. In Chess++ I am making this piece strong again. In Chess++ elephants can move and take on diagonals (as in classic chess), but it also can make one step up, left, right and down to the field which is not occupied by any other piece. Elephants can’t take the opponent's piece like that, it can only make this move if the field is empty. This small addition allows elephants to switch from white fields to black fields and vice versa. This makes elephants almost strong as rocks. This rule allows two elephants to defend each other and makes it possible to defend the King by only stepping with elephant into the line of attack.

Eights pawn (parachutist)
As you probably noticed, we left with one extra pawn unused. We have a special task for this pawn. Let's call it a parachutist. At any time during the game you may put this pawn at any empty place on 3 (three) central horizontal lines. You can use a parachutist only once during the game. You may find it very useful to fork your opponent, to defend the King, mate your opponent and/or just use it as an extra pawn. The trick here is to use it at the right time. Placing the parachutist on the board is considered as a move.

Conclusion

Ok, now you know everything you need to know about Chess++. All other rules of classic chess remain the same. Please, try it. Play it and send me your thoughts and suggestions.
