I had only 2 days to prepare for the National Chess Championship and I was the youngest and the lowest rated player in that event!
I am at the last of the table!
So, after seeing the starting list of the players, I was slightly nervous because I had never played such a strong tournament before. But after thinking for a while, I realized that I had nothing to worry about! Everyone was a better player than me so, I had nothing to lose!
In the 1st Round, I was paired against FM Mohammad Javed. I wanted to play solid and I thought that draw was a good result for me.
As I had little experience playing with strong opponents at that time, I offered my opponent a draw on move no.32, which was indeed a winning position for me! But luckily enough, my opponent didn't take the draw and I went on to win the game!
Won against a 2100 FM in 1st round!
So, the 1st round game boosted my motivation a lot and it affected my second game in the event! I was paired against another Fide Master who was 2200 at that time. But this time, I wanted to play aggressive!
The move 15.f4 was fantastic! The more I look into this game, the more I get proud of it! When I played the move f4 on the board, all the players crowded my board to see it!
But unfortunately, this game was my last win in the tournament. I drew 4 games in a row and then lost 1 and then again continued to make draws till the end of the tournament! But ok, the draws were also a good result for me.
So, I became 7th in my 1st ever National Chess Championship by scoring 5.5/10! That was a great result for me! And I also increased 180 Elo points in the event! Thus, pushing my rating to above 2100 from 1800!
