Wilhelm Steinitz is an American-Austrian Chess Player and is the 1st Official World Chess Champion....Steinitz learned playing by one of his schoolmates when he was 12 years old and he fell in love with the game and occupied himself in chess full-time
Interesting Facts of Wilhelm Steinitz
- He is considered as the "father of positional chess".
- In the Vienna city championships he earned the title "Austrian Morphy" (Paul Morphy is an American Chess Master who is often considered the greatest chess player in 1800's).
- Wilhelm Steinitz is the "First Official World Chess Champion".
- From 1873-1882 he went on a historic 25 game winning streak.
- He was also a highly influential writer and an chess theoretician.
Now lets move on to the game where he became the 1st Official World Chess Champion
Before the games, let me tell the rules of the 1886 1st Official World Chess Championship
- In order to become the world chess champion the person (winner) should win 10 games.
- games which are drawn are not counted.

you can count all the 1's of both sides and you will end up getting 5 wins for Zukertort and 10 wins for Steinitz
This is how the games went in the 1886 World Championship...some of you might be wondering how come they went 20 rounds while only 10 points were needed and it was passed long ago....check the rules of the tournament again....no draws are counted only wins)
We will now look in to the last game where Steinitz won to become the 1st world chess champion!!

The game was great right? such strong players with such vision were there in the 1800's where there is no internet or chess engines to analyze but its solely their effort which is remarkable and after Wilhelm Steinitz won round 20 he completed the 10 points (10 wins as draws are not counted) and became the 1st official world chess champion.
