Deleting Messages on the Android App

Deleting Messages on the Android App

It's a very hot Sunday today, and living up to its namesake, the sun has scared off all the storm clouds the weather forecaster promised me today. <grumble>

It's not that I hate the sun; he just brings a lot of baggage to our relationship, like sweltering heat and sunburns to my delicate goth skin. I have to love the sun from a distance and in small doses, which is why the moon is my best friend. She's totally chill and doesn't mind sharing space with clouds and other celestial bodies.

Delicate goth skin is delicate.

Anyway, while I'm stuck inside playing "The Waiting Game" with mister egotistical sun, I'm answering some tickets from our Support queue. I've come across a very familiar trick question: "How do I delete messages on the Android app?"

Luckily I own an Android phone and use the Chess.com app on it frequently. The answer is a bit of a black hole if you'll forgive the space reference. Simply put, there is no way to delete messages from the Android app (yet).

This is from my phone. As you can see, there's no delete button! 😡

You see, our developers are still in the process of adding more features to the app, so for the time being, it is only possible to archive messages. If you want to clean up your inbox, you must log in to your Chess.com account using a web browser and delete the messages the old-fashioned way. The good news is that you can do all this on the same device your app is installed on as long as you have access to a web browser. Most tablets and smartphones do, and if yours doesn't, please reply in the comments and send me a picture because that would be truly interesting to see!

As far as I know, we intend to add this feature in the future; we just don't have an exact rollout date yet. So please stay tuned, and spread the word, especially to our iOS brethren who don't have the same access to my Android expertise on this matter as you do.  We've gotta help them out, too!

I think that's about it for this post. The sun is getting ready to dip out and go bug the other side of the world, so I think I might go for a nice walk. Twilight is my favorite part of the day. 🥰

I want to hear from you if there's something I missed here or if you have a question you'd like me to answer in my blog!  You can write to me with your requests for help any time at support@chess.com

Until next time, this is Greta signing off. Remember: Be excellent to each other, make brilliant moves, and stay awesome!
