2024 D23 Recap ( Includes Zootopia 2, Hoppers, and Thunderbolts* Sneak Peeks )
D23 has been around since 2009 and has been going strong for 25 years straight. This year, Disney announced over 20 different movies and shows coming soon to theaters. From Incredibles 3, all the way to a live-action Lilo and Stitch. Today I will be recapping this years D23 and things you need to know before any of these movies released. Let's get started.
MOANA 2
Moana 2 was the opening for D23. Me personally, am very exited ( and worried ) for what Disney has planned for this movie. During the presentation, the voice actress of Moana, Auli'i Cravalho, announced that Moana will have a baby sister in the upcoming film. I think this will be very interesting to see and will unlock a lot of different possibilities for the movie. BUT, like I said in my last BLOG, the plot for this movie seems way too much like Frozen 2 so it will be very cool to see how they map this out. The film is set to release on November 27th.
ZOOTOPIA 2
Even after the TRASH show Zootopia+, Disney decided that it would be a good idea to do a sequel. During the presentation, the plot for the film was officially released: after reptiles are welcomed into Zootopia, a snake named Gary sends Judy and Nick off on a new adventure. Ke Huy Quan, Oriborus from Loki and Han from Kung Fu Panda 4 will be playing the snake and Ginnifer Goodwin + Jason Bateman will be reprising their roles as Judy and Nick. Also during the presentaiton, a tiny little clip of the movie was shown:

I think this movie will turn out to be pretty good but I can't really ever be sure when it comes to Disney...
FROZEN III
*Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh*
I know you've heard the rumors, Frozen III was officially confirmed. Now for THIS movie, I'm almost 100% sure it's not going to be good. Since 2022 I've been hearing talk about this film in production and I just CAN'T DO IT ANYMORE. STOP IT. STOP IT RIGHT NOW, DISNEY. SOON YOU'RE GONNA REALIZE ALL YOUR NEW MOVIES COMING OUT ARE EITHER REMAKES, OR SEQUELS AND IN THE 0.6% CHANCE YOU COME OUT WITH A ORIGINAL IDEA, IT'S GONNA STINK.
*clears throat* excuse me...
Mark my words: Disney is going to become just a big dumpster fire very, very soon. ANYWAYS, during the presentation, a piece of artwork from the movie was shown:
I'm getting very scared for whatever Disney is thinking about for this movie.
DREAM PRODUCTIONS ( DISNEY+ SHOW )
This announcement was a big surprise to me. It's only been a couple of months since Inside Out 2 came out and now we're already getting a SERIES? I think this show could be pretty good. All the emotions are back but instead of the usual "Inside Out" vibe, we're focusing in on Riley's dreams. The series takes place in between Inside Out and Inside Out 2 and will be releasing in 2025 on Disney+ so we won't see Anxiety, Envy, Ennui, or Embarrassment but we will probably see Joy and the original gang... along with Rainbow Unicorn.

ELIO
AN ENTIRE YEAR AGO, the first trailer for Elio came out:
The movie was originally supposed to release this Spring, but because of the stupid actors strike, the movie was delayed to March of 2025. NOW, this year at D23, they finally spoke back up about it and showed a new trailer:
I'm just going to say it... this movie looks dumb.

HOPPERS
Coming soon to theaters... the first ORIGINAL Disney movie in 10 years... HOPPERS. ( It sounds really bad )
Hoppers is an upcoming Disney/Pixar movie about a little girl named Mabel who can transfer her mind into a robot beaver with the goal of going undercover in the animal kingdom. She winds up befriending a regal beaver, King George, and uniting the animals to fight off the plans of a real estate developer.
WOW. THAT SOUNDS... REALLY BAD!!! 👏 👏 👏
Really hoping Disney comes through because we really need a GOOD ORIGINAL idea.

TOY STORY 5
You know I'm not surprised Disney is making a Toy Story 5 but it just seems like lazy writing. During the presentation, a the first piece of art from the film was shared:
As you might've guessed, Bonnie is now addicted to screens and forgets about her toys. I think this a very relatable and funny plot, but honestly, I have no stinking clue where Disney is going with this. In the last Toy Story, Woody and Bo Peep stayed back at the carnival ( Or whatever it was ) and they both became "Lost Toys". It was cute and sweet and all that mushy stuff so just STOP MESSING WITH IT. IT'S FINE.
In the artwork above, Woody is back with Bonnie. WHAT?! HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE?! This might be a situation where the sequel just completely ignores everything from the previous movie like Despicable Me 3 and 4, but who knows; it's stupid either way. If Woody is reunited with Bonnie, that completely defeats the entire ending of Toy Story 4. ALSO, Toy Story's 1 and 2 both ended perfectly; we didn't even need a THIRD movie. Now, here we are again, back with Woody and Buzz.
I believe if executed well, Disney could be making millions with a fifth movie in this beloved franchise but right now, it's not looking too good.
INCREDIBLES 3
Almost nothing was said about this movie during the presentation but I believe this IS a good move for Disney. Me personally, I really enjoyed both of the Incredibles movies. I think they're very entertaining and just overall fun to watch. Their family relationship was captured very well, the battle scenes were not absolute garbage, and it was not just for little kids but for all ages which I think is pretty cool.
I honestly can't wait to see what is going on inside of Disney's head.
STAR WARS
( Even though I don't like Star Wars anymore, I'm still gonna review it... bear with me... )
SKELETON CREW ( SHOW )
I've been hearing about this show for an extremely long time and now it's finally coming to Disney+ in December. I will say, right off the bat, I think this show is going to be a little on the boring side. It's about a group of kids that get stranded in the Star Wars galaxy, trying to get back home. That's it.
I've noticed in books and movies where people get STRANDED somewhere, it always ends up being really slow and dumb like Hatchet and other things like that. I'm afraid this show is going to be 40 episodes long... for absolutely no reason.
I haven't watched much Star Wars since Ahsoka and I'm not so sure how this show is going to turn out. ( I didn't even watch a single episode of The Acolyte because it looked so bad 💩 )

MANDALORIAN & GROGU
The minute I found out they were making a Mandolorian MOVIE instead of a Season 4, I got extremely excited. I really liked The Mandalorian and to see him on the big screen is just gonna be insane. I think this movie is gonna be great. ( Plus, I've heard rumors of Zeb from Rebels returning... 😈 )
The movies plot will "focus on the new Republic" and "close out" the stories from The Mandolorian, Book of Boba Fett, and Ashoka. I CAN'T WAIT. 😁
But I swear if Moff Gideon comes back I'm gonna crash out........
MARVEL

CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD
WOW.
FANTASTIC 4: FIRST STEPS
There's not a lot to say about this movie: Pedro Pascal is Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby is Sue Storm / Invisible Woman Joseph Quinn is Johnny Storm / Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach is Ben Grimm / The Thing.
I started to watch the 2015 Fantastic Four and got 45 minutes in and stopped. The plot wasn't getting anywhere so I just gave up. 😂
This is the 3rd Fantastic Four remake we've gotten and I'm excited to see how Kevin Fegie is going to tie it into the MCU.
THUNDERBOLTS*
The second I saw this for the first time:
I went a teeny-tiny bit insane. I love Yelana and Red Guardian SO MUCH and now we're getting an entire MOVIE with THEM as the MAIN CHARACTERS!?! WHAT!??!
I fell in love just from seeing that one picture and guess what happened today?
It just looks....................... so freaking awesome. THIS LOOKS LIKE THE BEST MARVEL MOVIE OF ALL TIME.

I really liked the original Lilo & Stitch so this should be fun to see brought to life with...................... CGI... 😭

I think we really need this prequel so Disney better not mess this up.
