The 3rd Annual Charity Chess Tournament was held on April 27th, 2024, at Rachel Carson Middle School in Herndon, VA. We were able to raise over $2000 to support Children's Miracle Network, and organization that helps recovering children hospital patients. The tournament also boasted over 50 players across the Open, U1600, U1000, and Non-rated sections.

NM Lang Xiong ended up winning the Open section by defeating NM Kent Slate in the second-to-last round. It was an intense, back and forth game, but Lang eventually ended up on top.

In the U1600 section, Albert Lee (USCF 1441) ended up winning with 3.5/4. He was able to defeat Alexander Levine (USCF 1434) in the third round and draw the final round. Finally, the U1000 section went to Geetansh Wagh, who won all of his games for a 4/4 sweep.

This event would have not been possible without the generous donations of all the players and parents attending the tournament. We want to extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone for helping to support this cause. Although our original goal was to raise $1000, we were able to crush that goal and raise over $2000. In the words of Ameya Haldankar, one of the organizers of the event, "It was absolutely amazing seeing so many people come and play at our event. Even the FCPS Superintendent, Dr. Michelle Reid, was able to come despite her busy schedule, and it was a great pleasure having all the organizers meet with her."

Also, we were able to receive sponsorships from several local businesses, like Food Lion and we want to thank them for their support as well.
