Project 241: Playing People From All-Around The World
Something I really like about chess.com is the ability to play people from all over the world. I recently had a friend reach out to me to see how they should approach playing different countries/getting different passports on here, so I figured I’d make a post about it. You can see your passport by going home->awards->passport on the desktop site; it signifies the countries of users you’ve played against. Chess.com recognizes 237 different countries.
My approach on getting certain “hard to get” countries (Mayotte? Lesotho? North Korea?!) was simple:
1) Go to connect->members and search by country for ones that I was missing
2) Challenge someone around my rating to a daily game
3) Request them as a friend (note that you can only have so many pending requests) and send them a message explaining what you’re trying to do
4) Send them a trophy to further get their attention
If playing people from all around the world seems interesting to you, you are welcome to join my club: https://www.chess.com/club/eulers-international-chess-club. It caters to intermediate players, and largely is focused on themed daily tournaments, chess variants, and improving with similarly rated players all around the globe!
EDIT: 12/21/2021- Looks like Chess.com added some new "countries". Chinese Taipei, European Union, French Polynesia, and Niue.
