Ever wondered what all the Tie Breaks mean?  What is Buchholz, Sonneborn-Berger, Koya, etc? Not to talk of Cut 1 , Cut 2, Median....

Here follow a quick explanation:

Buchholz:

You look at the points the opponents of the player scored and add all of them together:

Buchholz Cut 1:

Same as Buchholz, but you drop the opponent with the least score.

Buchholz Cut 2:

Same as Buchholz, but you drop the two least scores of opponents.

Buchholz Median 1:

Buchholtz, but you drop the opponent with the highest and lowest score.

Sonneborn-Berger:

The Sonneborn-Berger score is the sum of the points of the opponents you won against, plus half the sum of the points of the opponents you drew against.

Koya:

In Koya you first establish what is the highest result a player can achieve. For example in 7 rounds, where a win count 1 point, the highest result will be 7 (out of 7). You now half this.

You now only look at opponents who scored the same or more than this result,  If you had a win you get 1 point, if you drew against that opponent you get a half. If you lost against that opponent you get zero.

(With Koya you DO NOT use the opponents result, but the players result against the opponent)

Cumulative:

This is a running total of the players result.

TEST YOURSELF IN THIS EXAMPLE:
