My Biggest Weakness
I miss prophylactic moves! It's not that I don't look for them, I just miss them anyway.
I've been studying Dvoretsky's book "Recognizing Your Opponent's Resources", but I've been struggling and my work hasn't transitioned to my gameplay as well as I would have liked.
Here's a puzzle from a game I just played that I feel could have been taken straight from his book. I missed the winning move and went on to hold a rather lucky draw.
The result of a KIA style position. I (correctly) sacrificed a pawn to end white's attack while leaving all my positional trumps intact. I just needed to find one good prophylactic move and I would have won the game.
