The highly anticipated Chess.com Bughouse World Championship Open 2024 is back, with exciting gameplay, fierce competition, and a generous prize pool of $2,500, courtesy of Chess.com. This annual event celebrates one of chess's most electrifying variants: bughouse. Whether you're a seasoned player or an aspiring contender, there's a place for you in this thrilling global competition.
Chess.com Bughouse World Championship Open 2024
Eligibility:
- Account created before November 1, 2024.
- Participation is only allowed using your main Chess.com account.
Format and Qualifications:
- Eight Arena Qualification Tournaments will determine the top teams for the final stage.
- The top four teams from each arena qualify.
- Players must compete in each arena with a partner, though partners may vary across tournaments. However, players may only advance to the final stage with one partner.
- You can play both Open and Challenger tournament.
- You can also play the arenas again even when you have qualified.
Final Stage Structure:
- Teams are seeded into groups based on performance, playing in february.
- The top two teams from each group progress to the knockout rounds in march, culminating in the championship match in april.

To join the arenas you and your bughouse partner must join the Bughouse World Championship Open 2024 Club.

Chess.com Bughouse World Championship Challengers 2024
For players with a bughouse all-time high rating of 2199 or lower, the Challengers Section offers an equally competitive stage.
Eligibility:
- All-time high bughouse rating of 2199 or less.
- Account created before November 1, 2024.
- Participation is only allowed using your main Chess.com account.
- Players with more than one chesscom account must have a lower all-time high rating than 2199 across all accounts as of joining the club and must play from their main account. Any team found in violation of this policy at any stage of the event will be disqualified.
Format and Qualifications:
- Eight Arena Qualification Tournaments will determine the top teams for the final stage.
- The top four teams from each arena qualify.
- As with the Open Section, players must compete with a partner, but can only advance with one.
Final Stage Structure:
- Group stage runs from February 28, 2025, to March 29, 2025.
- The top two teams from each group proceed to weekly knockout matches until the champions are crowned.
