Agadmator Tournament That Broke The Internet
Antonio Radić, also known as Agadmator on Youtube, hosted an online chess tournament that featured some of the best chess players on planet.
It was called CakeDeFi Christmas Arena. Some of the top player took part in this tournament like Magnus (DrChampionstein), Hikaru (TSMFTXH), Alireza (alireza2003), Dubov (SVODMEVKO), and IMs Levy Rozman and Eric Rosen. All the fans around the world were pretty excited to start the tournament, as there was over 10 000 players (estimated).
Tournament started normally, with playes having 2 minutes for the whole game with no increment. The was the berserk option which makes you play with one minute only if you decide to go for it.
Hikaru Nakamura started tournament brilliantly, winning every game from the begging up until he faced IM Rosen. The game was tense, but we all could have seen this coming... Hikaru started strong but Rosen, being the savage player he is, tricked Hikaru, pinning his rook to the king, and afterwards winning it. The finishing touch was Hikaru blundering the queen, since he was distracted by losing a rook.
Hikaru won the next game against Danil Dubov, in amazing fashion, after forcing Dubov to resign in hopeless position. even though Hikaru seemed upset that he lost previous game against Eric Rosen, he managed to stay cool and calm, and defeated Dubov.
Magnus and Alireza played very good, with Alireza being on 76 points, with a draw against Hikaru, and Magnus with 68 points at the end. Magnus and Hikaru did not face each other, even though that would be the ultimate moment for many chess fans.
Ultimately, server started lagging, and ultimately crashed. After only 50 minutes of 2 hour tournament, all games were stopped. Due to upcoming World Bliz And Rapid in Poland, this online tournament was postponed. It is expected from Agadmator to continue this tournament somewhere in January 2022.
