New Chess.com Navigation Rolling Out In Coming Weeks
Navigating around Chess.com is obviously an essential part of the site; what good are a million new features if you can't navigate to them?
To that end, we are releasing a brand new navigation slowly to a few members (roughly 1 percent) at a time. Our new nav is a mix of technical and design improvements with some new features tossed in for good measure.
On the technical front: we gutted the entire nav and rewrote it using as much plain HTML, CSS and JS as possible while removing frameworks, which has resulted in code that is as slim and lightweight as possible and runs as fast as possible in all browsers.
Before going further, a moment of silence for top nav which is going the way of the dodo. Having both a top nav and side nav available essentially doubles the amount of necessary code and leaves us far more prone to bugs.
Now for the cool stuff:
1. Quick Game Nav: It's easier than ever to start any kind of game you want directly from the nav!
Play from nav above, gets you this:
2. Do you like to watch streamers or other top players? Well doing so from the nav is much easier now:
3. Reorganization: Remember when play and learn had about 50 million options? We've trimmed the core section down to what you actually use and added a "More" section for the rest.
4. We now have Merch and soon Top Chess Players coming to the nav as well.
5. Better alert code; essentially we are going to be checking for alerts more often so that you see them sooner.
As mentioned before, we are rolling this out slowly as it's a major overhaul and we hope that all you will let us know about any bugs along the way. Just click help and report a bug!
Thanks and enjoy!
