Staff Profiles: Jonathan Cannon
Our latest addition to the Staff Profiles, features JD Cannon (AKA jd with no caps) If Chess.com was an organism, jd might be a major contributor to the circulatory system! He's everywhere!
Where do you live?
Jefferson City, MO USA. We have some good hiking around, its cheap, but I wouldn't really recommend people go out of their way to move here.
How long have you worked for Chess.com and what do you do?
Counting volunteer time, I've worked for Chess.com for 3 years now; two years as staff. I wear a lot of hats so it's not so easy to briefly explain what I do for Chess.com. Some things I do are: Manage our team of moderators; Manage the beta club, keep an eye on everything that our developers do and try to keep everyone up to date with changes, a lot of behind the scenes work for ProChess League, plus tons of little stuff that if done correctly no one will ever notice.
What do you like about working at Chess.com?
Coming from the corporate world, Chess.com was quite an amazing site to see. Just a fantastic group of people collected around a common goal. Being a part of this team is nothing like I have ever seen before.
What are your other interests and hobbies?
Outside of chess, I quite enjoy the outdoors: Primitive camping, Hiking, Kayaking etc. I am getting back into triathlon training as well. I enjoy travel, books, and am quite the beer snob as well.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
Mind control... Most other superpowers are superfluous if you have unlimited mind control.
0-0 or 0-0-0?
99.99% 0-0... I only play 0-0-0 when for whatever reason it turns out to be safer and more solid than 0-0; for example in main lines of Caro-Kann or when White gets frisky too early on the kingside in the Sicilian.
Thank you jd for all the things you do, big and small! Stay tuned, Chess.com members, for our next profile, coming along soon!
