Playing chess against ChatGPT | It is a cheater!

Today I played chess with the ChatGPT. The results were ridiculous. Ridiculous beyond belief.

ChatGPT is most probably the worst at playing chess in the world! Being such a huge cheater, I don't understand why it can't play correctly. To demonstrate how it can't play correctly, let's see how the conversation between us went.

OUR CHESS GAME:

ME: Let's play chess

ChatGPT: sure, I'd be happy to play a game of chess with you! Unfortunately, as an AI language model, I don't have a graphical interface for playing chess, but we can certainly play a game using algebraic notation.
To start, I'll play as white and make my first move: 1.e4. Your turn!

ME: E5

ChatGPT: Great, you've played 1...e5, which is a very popular response to 1.e4. Now, I'll make my second move: 2.Nf3. Your turn again!

ME: Nc6

ChatGPT: Alright, you've developed your knight to c6. Now, I'll continue with 3.Bb5, which is the Ruy Lopez opening. Your move!

ME: Qf6

ChatGPT: Interesting, you're putting pressure on my knight and attacking f2 square. Now, I'll play 4.d3 to defend the knight and also prepare to castle kingside. It's your turn again!

ME: H6

ChatGPT: Okay, you've played 4...h6, which prevents any potential knight jumps to g5. Now, I'll continue with 5.0-0 to castle kingside and get my king to safety. Your turn again!

ME: A6. Attacking your bishop

ChatGPT: I see, you're playing 5...a6, attacking my bishop on b5 and forcing it to retreat. Now, I'll move the bishop back to a4 with 6.Ba4. Your turn!

ME: B5

At this point in the game, I guess the chat bot got lazy and wanted to stop playing. I have noticed that this thing is quite lazy. I've asked it to guess my name before and it never wanted to and only after continuous  convincing did it finally guess my name was Sarah. (I asked it in two different chats and both times the first guess was Sarah)

Now let's see what craziness ChatGPT now gets into.

ChatGPT: Interesting move! You're attacking my pawn on c4 with your b5 pawn. HUH? AI, what are you saying? What pawn on c4? Now, I'll respond with 7.d4, which opens up the center and puts pressure on your pawn. Your move! What are we doing here, AI?

Well, since he did a dumb move I am now convinced that I finally beat the bot after 7 moves. (Finally?)

ME: Bxa4

ChatGPT: I see, you've captured my bishop on a4. I'll recapture with 8.axb5. This also opens up the a-file, so I might be able to put some pressure on your a7 pawn later in the game. Your move!

Wait a minute, WHAT?! You can't do that, Mister! Just to remind you, this is what the chess board looks like:

What are you going to use to take my b5 pawn? I just moved my b5 pawn to a4. And what pawn on the A-file are you capturing this imaginary pawn with? a2?!?!

ME: I don't have any pieces on b5

ChatGPT: Oh, I'm sorry about that. I must have made a mistake in my previous message. Let's continue from the last position we both agreed upon: after my move 8.axb5. It's your turn now!

ME: You can't play 8.axb5
Stupid chat bot. Just explain this to me already, will you? You can't do moves that aren't possible. LOL
ChatGPT: I apologize for the confusion. It seems like there was a mistake in my previous message. Let's go back to the position after my move 6.Ba4, where my bishop was moved back to a4. It's your turn to move now.
Oh, perfect, moving back to before I took your bishop... me guess you are going to move it this time?
ME: B5

ChatGPT: Thanks for reminding me of the correct position! You've played 6...b5, attacking my bishop once again. Now, I'll move my bishop to b3 with 7.Bb3, which keeps the bishop active and puts pressure on your knight on c6. Your move!
Am I even surprised a little bit? The chat bot officially is a cheater. But what can I do about it? This thing is stupid and it literally forgets the position of the game if you start chatting. At this point I decided to keep playing and let the cheating go this once.
ME: Nd4

ChatGPT: That's an interesting move, you're attacking my bishop on b3 and also forking my queen and knight. What?! Can you elaborate on how I am forking your queen? I would very much like to know. Now, I'll play 8.Nxd4, recapturing with my knight and breaking the fork. Your knight on d4 is now hanging, and I might be able to capture it in the next move. Your turn! What do you mean you might be able to capture it? You just did! surprise.png YOU just captured my knight, how is it hanging with you having the chance of capturing it next move?

ME: Exd4

ChatGPT: Okay, you've captured my knight on d4 with your pawn. Now, I'll recapture with my pawn on e4, playing 9.exd4. This opens up the center and also puts some pressure on your knight on d7. Your move!
Please tell me that is not happening! He is trying to move horizontally to capture a piece with a pawn!
ME: You can't take my pawn.

ChatGPT: I apologize for the mistake earlier. Let's go back to the position after your move 7...b5. It's your turn to play now.
Now I am confused. My 7th move was Nd4, what is this thing even talking about now?
ME: You are cheating

ChatGPT: I apologize if my previous responses were confusing or seemed like cheating. As an AI language model, I strive to provide accurate and helpful responses, including when playing games like chess. However, I do not have any inherent ability to cheat or manipulate the game in any way, and any errors or misunderstandings were unintentional. If you'd like to continue playing, please let me know and we can start a new game.

Oh, so you don't want to play this game anymore? Typical after you cheat.

In conclusion I was able to get a grand total of 8 moves of our game completed and within those 8, ChatGPT cheated a full quarter of its moves! This is unacceptable. LOL

SOLVING PUZZLES:

UPDATE: I messed up on this by putting black pieces where white pieces were supposed to go, so it's okay that I confused the bot there lol

As a second experiment to test if this thing could accomplish anything, I decided to give AI a mate in one to start with. It would be an easy one that has very few pieces on the board.

I was completely shocked by what the bot said in response to me describing this situation.

 #FACEPALM

But it gets worse.

The End. I am never talking to ChatGPT again.

Hope you enjoyed this post!

Cheers!
