Want To Be 1200 at Bullet?

If you hate  increments in bullet, this blog is just for you!

I’m just an average chess player like many of you. But today, I want to share how I went from 200 to 1200 rating in bullet chess in a very short time.

If you’ve tried learning from streamers on YouTube and still couldn’t improve, then this blog might just help you.

Let’s start with the common mistakes we all make that stop our rating from increasing.

Mistake #1: Mindless Trading

One of the most common mistakes is constant trading — piece after piece, without a clear plan. The result? You’re left with fewer powerful pieces while still having a lot of time on the clock. That leads to a loss of confidence and control over the game.

What should you do instead?

Trade only when it benefits you materially or positionally. For example, if your opponent takes your knight but you’re able to take a knight and a bishop in return — that’s a good trade!

Remember, in bullet, winning doesn’t always require checkmate. If you save your better pieces for the endgame, you can often win by flagging your opponent. When your opponent has less than 8 seconds left, start giving checks and sacrificing your pieces smartly — it’ll burn their clock!

Mistake #2: Random Safe Moves

To save time, we often make random "safe" moves in the opening — but this hurts in the long run.

From today, stop doing that. Instead, follow a few solid openings and strategies I’ve personally used to reach 1200.

When Playing White:

Opening 1: London System

If you’re used to starting with 1.e4, try switching to 1.d4. The London System is solid and easy to learn.

Here’s an example London System game you can follow:

Opening 2: Queen’s Gambit

This is one of the most well-known openings. It’s reliable and great for bullet.

I’ll show you two versions:

What to do if your opponent accepts the gambit

What to do if your opponent declines the gambit

Queen’s Gambit Accepted:

Queen’s Gambit Declined:

Both of these lines not only give you solid positions but also help you waste your opponent’s time — a huge bonus in bullet!

When Playing Black:

Most players open with the Italian Game when playing White. So here are two ideas to defend effectively:

1. Rousseau Gambit

2. Early Bishop Sacrifice Line

Rousseau Gambit:

Bishop Sacrifice Line:
(Insert game or key moves)

I hope this blog helps you. Honestly, this is how I personally reached 1200 in bullet.
