Marcel Duchamp has an incredible story with the game of chess. He loved chess with such a fiery passion he was willing to sacrifice a lot in his life for the game. This is the story of a chess visionary, Marcel Duchamp.

Marcel Duchamp first played chess when he was 11 years old with his older brothers Gaston and Raymond in France in a village named Blainville-Crevon in 1898. At first the game was just a good pass time, but little did Marcel Duchamp know that this game would change his life.

Marcel pursued the hobby and profession of art. He was well known as a painter. Marcel got pretty good at it as well! But then chess took over.

Have you ever had that feeling that you really wanted to play chess at a certain time. Or when you stop playing the game or you are taking a break from it and you randomly remember about it, and you just want to play it? I guess that is how Marcel felt at the time.

"Chess holds its master in its own bonds, shackling the mind and brain so that the inner freedom of the very strongest must suffer" ~Albert Einstein

"We cannot resist the fascination of sacrifice, since a passion for sacrifices is part of a Chess player's nature"

~Rudolf Spielmann

Chess had been a nice little side hobby for Marcel for a long time. He played with a competitive spirit against friends and family and Incorporated the game into some paintings. But eventually this side hobby became a hobby so on so forth till it became an addiction/obsession. Eventually the only thing on his mind would be: chess.

Marcel would study tactics and strategies for chess. He would join Marshall Chess club and play all night. Marcel would eventually give up his profession of art in his early thirties to become a full time chess player. Marcel did everything chess from then on.

Marcel would eventually meet Lydia Sarazin-Lavassor, his Ex-Wife. Why Ex? Here's why: Marcel was so addicted to chess that during their honeymoon he spent a whole week doing chess related things. Lydia would obviously be angry. She decided to get revenge. She glued Marcel's chess pieces to the board which resulted in a divorce.

Marcel's incredible story shows how chess can take over the mind and change your life. It was compared to a complex virus by David Shenk the author of an incredible book "The Immortal Game - A history of chess" which is where I got this information from.

Chess is an incredible game, full of complexion and infinite possibilities. Full of endless strategies and Tactics. Chess is a game that can engulf the human mind.
