This post is about who to consider as possible mentors for an older person who has always known about chess but never had any real time to put the mind to study for enjoyment & mainly learn a few skills of the game.
Looking over the coaches section of chess.com one name comes to mind & that is somewhere in my ball park, I obviously have gotten a late start in this sport. Only until recently, in the past year, have I had the time to indulge in chess as a hobby.
Erik Kislik a person as a candidate to follow.
The name of Erik kislik out of Califronia, US has written the words in an article that rings a bell with this player/viewer of this website. Many players seem to start at 4 or 5, but this is not my reality. It is 65 & beyond to grasp & hopefully sharpen the older mind if that is possible. This is real life, & that is the way it is. (Walter Cronkite)
And a side note, I do catch MissLovaLova from time to time with her 6 cats. She is an enjoyable & entertaining chess player, & pretty darn good at chess too ! Thanks all or anyone reading this. Be well.
James Coleman as a candidate mentor to follow out of Surrey England.
Mr. Coleman's blog on this site portrays a good attitude toward chess. I like the words used in his blog. Cautious of notices of payment for services, since these folks have to eat too, especially if the person is really good at what they do as a "professional". What are the credentials? If there are articles written by an individual, what can a person learn from them? At this point I would possibly follow what this person does in this field to see what info I could gather to improve my game, if I have any "game" at all.
Emil Mirzoev out of Ukraine following & as a prospective mentor.
Being a legend in my own mind, reality is I am a beginner, & a late one at that. The bio article on this individual speaks well, & will start to watch his goings on in the chess world. Being a Ukrainian American, (no I don't speak the language) [make sure the person can speak your language & write in English too] I liked the write up & will follow to see how he does.
