Chess Research 2
Top 25 Greatest minds in Chess & of those that have contributed to the world of chess the most in the eye of this aspiring newbie. Based upon my own research in this arena of competition & world recognition and why. Living or deceased.
Actually chess from an early on endeavor, drives home the idea of humility. Anyone beyond the beginner level would be included as one of the greatest minds in chess of all time.
1) This person is recognized as the first world chess champion.
Who is Wilhelm Steinitz?
2) This German mathematician held the world chess title for 27 years.
Who was Emanuel Lasker ?
My comment: the above is the caliber of mind that takes up chess & becomes world class.
I am keeping in mind what the potential opponent is capable of & who I could be
dealing with. The possible background of the opponent is worth noting.
In the CHESS 3rd edition the author makes the comment that "Whereas Lasker was
by nature an intellectual, ….for Lasker, chess was first & foremost a struggle.
This comment resonates with me. Certainly early on this is true for me !
These players are playing for world titles in their early 20's. !
3) At age 14, this person was the youngest to ever have won the US Chess Championship
in 1957. Ans. Who was Bobby Fischer.
My reading from the above source indicates it was Bobby Fischer who is credited for elevating the prize payout for chess to be considered a "professional" sport.
