The Colle System begins after 1. d4 d5 2. Nf3 Nf6 3. e3

This opening is a system, meaning it can be played against near anything. For example 1. d4 Nf6 2. Nf3 d5 3. e3. It can stop anyone trying to play a King's Indian Defense or something else that would come from the Indian Game.

This opening is pretty much a reverse Slav Defense which someone fortunately wrote a blog about that you should read. From here if they play c5, we play c3. e6 is black's best move. It doesn't matter what black plays though, our set up is the same. We will bring our bishop to d3, the knight on b1 to d2, and castle. If they kick our bishop with c4, we just move it to c2.

Now, next move we play Re1, even if they don't push c4. Likely, next move we push e4. Best move is to trade pawns for black. We recapture with the knight and if they take our knight recapture with the bishop.

Instead of them taking our knight, a better move is taking on d4. We first take on f6 with check, queen can't take because Bg5 would win the queen, so gxf6, weakens the kingside. Then recapture on d4.
If their bishop went to e7, we will scrap the last plan and take on c5. A very good motif to keep in mind while playing this opening is the Greek Gift Sacrifice. Other than that, you know the Colle System!
