March 14, 1982, Labate's Chess Centre, Downey, CA. I posted a video of this game a couple years ago, but was recently given photographs by a friend. Sadly, Tigran passed away just two years later. He caught me in a line he knew and I didn't and I was crushed, but just kept hanging on by a thread. He missed a win and erred, and I held the draw. I never saw anyone move around the room as quickly he did, he was really fast!

We arranged to have several high rated boards in a row. On my right is FM Steve Hughes, and 2100 John Wright next to him. On my left is 2000 Dane Hinrichsen and FM Dan Durham. Hughes won, Petrosian hung his Queen for a Rook, Durham also squeeked a draw out, surviving a crazy and unforseen sacrifice. Most everyone else lost that day....In the close up, he is instantly responding, my hand is still pulling back from making my move. I wore my hair long in those days....
