Today's Daily Puzzle 8/17/20: Can You Move Please?
Today's puzzle is a great example of finding the story in the position. Once you can identify what's happening, and once you calculate all captures/checks, the right move should be obvious.
What's happening?
1. Black is oh so close to promoting his pawn, but white's king and bishop are preventing the pawn from reaching its full potential.
2. White has an extremely strong passed d pawn that is currently making it impossible for black's king to get in the game
3. Black has come captures to think about: trading rooks, taking on f4, taking on c5.
Can black distract white's pieces from the promotion square? In other words, can white move out of the way please?
Yes!
Deflection can be a powerful tactic. As in many puzzles, always be on the look out for counter-intuitive captures (like Nxc5).

Blog Update
I wanted to give everyone a quick update that I will be changing my blog updates to every other day. I've decided to do this for a few reasons. First, my Youtube and Twitch channels (linked below) have started to grow and it's frankly been challenging to provide updates daily. However, each post going forward will contain two puzzle analyses, the puzzle of that day and the puzzle of the day before. Secondly, I'm changing my cadence out of respect for the other top bloggers. On the top blog page, the most recent posts are always shown first. I don't want to be hogging the limelight there as there's a lot of other great content creators.
Hopefully by changing up the rhythm of this blog it will also allow for me to possibly post other content on the blog besides the daily puzzle. I'm so grateful for the following I've gained with the daily puzzle but would also like to branch out with other topics! If you have any other ideas/suggestions please let me know in the comments below or send me a message!
