Today's Daily Puzzle 9/25/20: Non-Traditional Back Rank Mates
When you think of a back-rank mate you typically think of a king all alone in the back rank with three tidy pawns on the 2nd-from-the-back-rank. A rook or queen slides down the board to deliver mate!
That of course is the most "traditional" type of back-rank mate, but really a back-rank mate is....well....a checkmate delivered to the king that's on a back rank! In this amazing puzzle, black sets up a beautiful back-rank mate but in a non-traditional way. White only has one pawn in front of him instead of three, but black maneuvers his pieces to cover the other two squares that would potentially be white's escape squares!
