7 In A Row!
I try to play fast time controls sometimes but they make me uncomfortable. And I'm most at ease playing dailies but you don't get a lot of games in that way, and I need lots of repetition in order for things to stick in my memory and stay there. So I've been playing the 30-minute format lately and it seems to suit me.
In addition, I adopted the English opening for now. It's not one of the ones played by most people and so my expectation is that a familiarity with it will give me a small advantage a lot of the time. I try to analyze every game as soon after I've played it as I can and again a number of times later on. I firmly believe that repetition holds the key to any possible success.
Still, I was afraid that I had hit a roadblock. After 90 days it didn't seem as if I'd ever get higher than about 440. Between my own penchant for making ridiculous blunders and lower rated opponents who seemed to play like bots it was getting quite frustrating. I was starting to doubt my capacity for ever being any better.
And then today happened. At the time that I'm writing this I'm 7/7 and sitting at 474! The cloud that's been lingering over my head has disappeared and I feel energized again.
What a difference a day can make!
