NEISG History Book: Chapter 1
Hello, chess.com! My name is hitthepin, and welcome back to the place where time is wasted.
In case you couldn't tell from the title, I've decided to write a history book, on the Never-Ending Infinite Sandbox Chess Game.
Before we begin, I assume that you, the reader, knows that the Never-Ending Infinite Sandbox Chess Game is. If not, you can find the forum itself right here.
I once mentioned a while ago that I'd make something like this, back when the game was still running. I suppose that this has been a long time in the making at this point. This is just finishing what I should have started a long time ago.
I'm also right about to take a whole bunch of artistic licences right now. Some dramatization and fictionalization may take place. I suspect that many members of this game may be in the audience. If you don't like the name I give you or something, just ask to change it.
And I think that's all the introductions. You ready for a history lesson? Let's go.
Chapter 1: The Very Beginning (Y0)
THE BEGINNING
The entire world, infinite in its size and scope, is collectively known as “The Board”. Unlike many other worlds that you may have heard of, this had no natural terrain. There are no rivers, no hills, no valleys. All that exists is a vast, flat plane that extends in all directions.
The Board existed in a sterile state for an extreme amount of time extending into the past. However, due to an unknown event referred to as “The Beginning”, a massive number of events suddenly happened, nearly at the same time.
During the Beginning, a great number of armies and tribes graced the Board, some of whom would rise to power, other who would play very little role in upcoming events.
DIFFERENT GROUPS
The first group to arrive on the Board was called the Navs. Outfitted in orange, they all adhered to a religion that claimed that they had some sort of connection to the board that no other group had. Whether this is true or not is unknown, but the Navs did grow into a very large and powerful force - possibly the most powerful group, ever - that made an undeniable mark on history.
The second group was called the Aukians, a group dressed in a very bright shade of blue so blinding that it was difficult to look at them. Despite being headed by capable commanders, the Aukians disappeared from history without making too much of an impact.
The third group was known as the Supers, or the SSS. The people of this group all wore purple, and existed for quite some time and played many important roles before fading out.
The fourth group was only known as the WD. This group first distinguished themselves by wearing a bright, proud red. A strong nation, neglectful leadership eventually lead to it vanishing.
The fifth group was the race referred to as the Zhou. A proud tribe who wore white, their once-decently powerful army stagnated and disappeared thanks to inattentive and absent leadership.
The sixth group somewhat arrogantly called themselves the Masters. A group that has experienced severe ups and downs as time went on, they even seemed to completely fade out for a short while before revealing that they were still alive. They were still in existence when the Great Pause overtook everything, showing their persistence and determination.
The seventh group is named the Holographs. The Holographs’ uniforms were a deep, dark blue, in contrast to both the Aukians and the WD. The Holographs played a very active role in events before their rather quick and abrupt end.
The eighth group referred to themselves as “The Third Empire”, although why this name was selected when there had not been two previous empires is still subject to debate and confusion. This army cloaked themselves exclusively in dark shades. Sadly (for them), the Third Empire collapsed more quickly than any other nation, and the impact that they could have had is now lost.
The ninth group called their own people the Pins. The Pins wore outfits of bright green, a tradition that they have kept for all of their existence. The Pins were another large and notable group, although eventually they did begin declining in power.
The tenth group is called the Fischers. They wore yet another shade of blue, a cause of confusion when differentiating them from the Holographs. The Fischers were constantly a powerful group, dictating important world events and never suffering from a decline in power.
The eleventh group is spoken of as the Connans. An incidental group that showed a preference of the color brown, they unfortunately never made too great of an impact, despite existing for a very long time. They eventually disappeared after many decades.
EARLY GEOGRAPHY
The eleven powers generally grouped themselves into two different geographical locations at The Beginning. These two locations became known as the Central Zone and the Eastern Zone.
The Central Zone was named that for two reasons. 1) it was supposedly located at the geographical center of the world, at longitude 0, although being at the center of something infinite is still a question that top scientists are studying. 2) The vast majority of groups congregated here. The Navs, the Aukians, the WD, the Zhou, the Masters, the Holographs, the Third Empire, and the Connans all put their roots in an area less than 25 degrees of longitude wide.
The Eastern Zone was further divided into two sections: the Middle East and the Far East. The Middle East was an area that, at the Beginning, was solely occupied by the Pins, on longitude 100. The Far East was a vast, empty area occupied by the SSS and the Fischers, separated by a very long distance.
The different geographical locations clearly had a great impact on early events. Those in the Central Zone had a very difficult job in gaining in power. Those in the Eastern Zone, however, were quite separated from any early action, thus allowing them to grow their armies in peace. Indeed, the Pins, the SSS, and the Fischers all gained power quickly.
All nations got their start at the same time, at Year 0. One single basic soldier was dropped into existence at the same time, all eagerly waiting to lurch forward to promotion.
The sides were drawn, and history was now just waiting to be written.
