Sonja Graf vs Lodewijk Prins in Hastings 1935/36
As I was gathering material for my previous blog I discovered a Sonja Graf's game vs Lodewijk Prins in Hastings 1935/36 [premier reserves], played on 27/12/1935 [found in De Telegraaf of 30-12-1935]. I had decided not to post it there as Graf lost, but it is a beautiful game!! A Grunfeld defense...
Firstly solve this beautiful tactic! It's Graf's turn with white and missed it.

I' ve tried to find some event coverage of this game, but there was none!
Only articles I've found around Graf and Prins, is one about Yarmouth 1935 in De Telegraaf of 17-07-1935 where Graf won Prins, but there was no game.
And another about Margate 1938, in De Telegraaf of 23/04/1938. I haven't found a game within this tournament, but a "funny" incident is described.
Some private correspondent of De telegraaf is giving some images and dialogues around the Dutch chess players that are participating in Margate 1938. Lod. Prins tries to make a joke about the english press and his beard. After reproducing some saying of some ven Sieters, a little story is told about Sonja Graf...
Previous night she crashed with a car on a tree!! Car was destroyed... After going to the hospital for her injured head, she was on time back for her game against some Jameson!! It's a pity I couldn't find the game or a result...
Mr. ven Sieters: Well, ik vind de Engelschen prettige partners. Niet omdat ik byna altijd van ze win, maar ze weten zoo goed hun verlies te dragen. Nooit toonen ze eenige spijt over een bok of tegenspoed. Dat is met de buitenlanders wel eens anders. Hoogstens hoor je een enkele zeggen: I ought to win that game.
Dat laatste hoort mr. Puckridge al riet meer. Hij snel op Sonja Graf af, die gisteravond gedurende een autoritje tegen een boom was gereden. De auto was aan diggelen, maar zij kwam er met een hoofdwonde af, die in het ziekenhuis gehecht werd. Evengoed verscheen zij op tijd voor haar partij tegen Jameson.
Een juffrouw met temperament!
Graf and Prins in Margate 1938 [found in De Telegraaf of 21/04/1938], accompanied with this: "Te Margate ...dat Sonja Graf er ieder jaar krijgshaftiger gaat uitzien ... dat Prins een baard gekregen heeft, sinds hij zijn vórigen zet deed (maar dit is niet waar)."
