Return to Chess 10 | Creating a Gameplan

Hey everyone.  First of all, I'd like to thank all of you who have left a comment or message in support of these blogs over the past few days.  It truly does mean a lot.

For this edition, I'd like to highlight the importance of creating a gameplan.  While I'm not huge in to the whole "Chess is like life" metaphor anymore, there are some similarities between the two.  One example is clear: if you want something, you have to seize the initiative and go for it.  That's why, in my opinion, creating a plan and failing is better than not having a plan at all, idly moving around and doing nothing.

Tigran Petrosian, a former top level GM, exhibits an endgame plan very well in a game that he played against Mr. Alexander Kalantar, another GM who, admittedly, I know nothing about.  In this game, he ended up in an equal endgame in which he could have easily taken a draw; instead, he decided to go for a gameplan while his opponent stood back, idly moving his king around.

I'll publish another example soon about gameplans, as I believe they are definitely necessary for development in chess!  Let me know if you have any other examples or comments in the comments section.
