How to play Slav Defense (+ Video)
Slav Defense is a strong and popular variation against Queen’s Gambit (the opening in fashion these days ). I would say it is solid and easy to play and to learn. In this post, we are going to study the basics (and a little more) about how to play Slav Defense.

Highlights about Slav Defense
- White can play Exchange Variation against Slav Defense (2.cxd5). This line drives to a symmetrical pawn structure. White always has an extra tempo in development, but it’s not the most ambitious line; Black usually equalizes.
- In the mainline, at move number 5, White has two different ways to play: Ne5, getting unclear middlegames; or e3, guiding to slower positions.
- In moves number 4 and 5 there are some alternatives for Black, maybe not as popular, but still interesting and very playable. The second player can use these lines to vary and explore some new grounds from time to time.
In this post/video there are plans, general ideas, and some theory. But keep in mind that practice, experience, and learning from your mistakes is what is really going to help you to completely understand a new Opening in your repertoire. Hope this helps!
Good luck to everybody, and take care!!!
