All Draws In Penultimate Round of Croatia Grand Chess Tour
Today was probably the most boring round of the tournament as not only were all games drawn, 5 out of 6 ended in the first (approx.) 2.5 hours, which is fairly quick for classical games. The one game that forced the commentators into another 3 hours of dry mouths was the dynamic Fabiano Caruana vs. Shakhriyar Mamedyarov. Here are all the games of the round.
The Grand Chess Tour standings remain the same as all players are in the same standings as the previous round. Here are the possible situations to decide first place in the final round:
- If Magnus Carlsen wins, he secures first regardless of the result of Wesley So's game.
- If Magnus Carlsen draws and Wesley So draws/loses, Carlsen wins the tournament.
- If Magnus Carlsen draws and Wesley So wins, first place is shared between the two.
- If Magnus Carlsen loses and Wesley So wins, So wins first place.
- If Magnus Carlsen loses and Wesley So draws, first place is shared between the two.
- If both players draw, Magnus Carlsen wins the inaugural Croatia Grand Chess Tour.
