New rules of chess ?

a tongue in cheek post today!

new rules of chess ? Do I mean 960 chess or Fischer Random chess ?

Well I have tried 960 chess, here's a game against GM Georg Meier, a strong GM.

I definitely was trying to resist but the GM prevailed here.

But I am also thinking of new "rules of chess" based on chess engines like Stockfish14

What I mean by that is we have been taught

"Put your king away from the center  and castle quickly".

"Develop the pieces quickly in the opening ".

"Bishop pair dominates Knight pair most of the times".

and engines kind of question the validity of these "rules" or "principles". Concretely they could show a variation where one side takes the advantage by doing the opposite of these "chess principles".

PRINCIPLE: "Put your king away from the center  and castle quickly". Very often followed in the opening.

Here's an example where White does not do that at all. We are talking Stockfish14 with White pieces.

The opponent is fairly strong, Stockfish12 !

In this position White has tried 7.Bg2 to prepare 0-0 or 7.Qd2 to prepare 0-0-0 as well as 7.a4 to prevent b7-b5. ?

What is Stockfish's choice ? 7 g5 disloging the knight on f6.

You can see white pushing g and h pawns with the White king stuck in the center. Note that Black reacts in the center, which is known to be a  "chess principle" : react in the center when attacked on the flank.

Position after 17 Nge2

On move 17th, White has not castled yet. But with the Black pieces I would be worried about the open h file. This means that Black's king safety is worse than White's king on e1. Therefore Stockfish14 saw a chance to do g4-g5 followed by h4-h5-hg6 and went for it !

The rest of the game is textbook example of a kingside attack
