chess noob Quick Wins! is a series of short videos, to demonstrate very quick wins! As a beginner, you become aware of the Scholar's Mate and the Fool's Mate, but neither of these show up in real games. However, there are tricky quick checkmates and wins that occur, even at the intermediate level of chess.
Today's game was an amazing game of blitz sent in by @eNoDev who got an 8-move checkmate playing a 100% accurate game of the Icelandic Gambit!
This very sharp gambit comes out of the Modern Variation of the Scandinavian Defense (1. e4 d5 2. exd5 Nf6 3. c4 e6). Black has a big boost in their development and at the end of move 4, Black has two minor pieces developed to White's zero!
This allows Black to make an immediate attack on White's king, still in the centre of the board. White attempts to counterattack by pushing forward in the centre with their d-pawn, and then scrambles to unpin their knight and develop their bishop. In the complicated position, they miss the lethal treat on their f-pawn - (8. Qxf2#) - flawless victory!
