This week I reviewed Aronian-Caruana Sinquefield Cup 2017, in which Bishop + wrong rook pawn was a possibility. I watched this game live on site in the no-engine GM discussion room. During moves 45-55 (~30-60 min total), GM opinions about the position on the board went back and forth between Draw and Win for Black . (GMs were V, Akobian and E. Hansen). At the time I vaguely recalled that Bishop + wrong rook pawn is surprisingly a win if the opponent has doubled Knight pawns. Based on this I claimed Win for Black somewhere around move 52. This evaluation was subsequently and indirectly confirmed by both participants when Fabi offered the R exchange (move 56) which Levon declined. https://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1883502 ===My vague recollection has now been traced. It’s from a book I’d studied a long while back, Batsford Chess Endings, page 121, which analyzes the conclusion of Short-Kasparov Belgrade 1989 starting from move 93. Kasparov demonstrates the winning method. https://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1070432
I think I played a bit better than week 3, results showed sort of as I upgraded from 1-3 to 2-2. They were very strong. I did manage to beat Alisa but only because she was trying so hard to push me off the board.
This link shows the Vote Chess games the BCC has going, including open challenges. https://www.chess.com/club/votechess/boeing-chess-clubTo participate in a votechess game you must join it (each game is separate). Any club member is eligible. You don't need to vote for a move every time, but if no one from a team does the game is 'lost on time'. This happens fairly often in my experience.https://www.chess.com/votechess/ shows you all of your votechess games, including whether voting is open.
Our participation is being organized elsewhere for now. In the meantime, this form topic can be a place on the platform itself (chess.com) for introductions, general discussion, etc.
Looks like this week is a bust. Followed the logon instructions again and ended up with a duplicate username, which I suspect is ineligible. At one point stumbled upon a "Lineup Selection" page, which I filled out according to the e-mail, but this selection was rejected (ERROR: Lineup update failed). Tried again without including myself and this also failed with the same error message.
