Signups are now open for the next season of TM Championship. The competition is projected to start in either March or May, depending on whether the teams in the final are signed up for the next season and if they're OK with playing some more matches. We need 16 teams for a 3 round season, and up to 32 teams for 4 rounds. Invite your friends! Teams should have less than 250 members, and beginning this season are requested not to grow significantly. To sign up please post the group name, a link to the home page or matches page for the group, and the usernames (and links if possible) for two admin contacts. It is helpful to post the current number of members, and please acknowledge you understand that the other teams are not expecting your team to grow a lot and may consider it unfair if you do. Sample Entry: Team Name (link) Contacts (links) # members Optional pledge to limit team growth during the season.

At the start of the tournament, teams are divided into groups (or divisions) of 3 or 4 teams each. If the tournament has a full roster of 32 teams, then there are 8 divisions of 4 teams each. With fewer teams, some (or all) divisions may have 3 teams, or there may be fewer than 8 divisions. Within each division, each team plays a match with each other team. So for a division with 4 teams, each plays 3 matches; in a division with 3 teams, each plays 2 matches. There are 4 rounds in the annual championship. Round 1 has up to 32 teams and 16 teams advance; round 2 has 8 teams advance, round 3 has 4 advance, and the Grand Final determines the championship. To keep the tournament on schedule, each round is limited to 90 days. At the end of the 90 days, the scores in each match are checked, whether the match is complete or not, and the team with the highest number of games won on that date wins the match. If the match score is tied then it is scored as a draw. Two teams from each division advance to the next round. If there is a tie for 1st/2nd, both teams advance and no tiebreaker is required. But it is possible to have ties for 2nd/3rd, 1st/2nd/3rd, or even have all 4 teams have a win, draw, and loss resulting in a 4-way tie. If there is a tie, the net score differential (total games won - total games lost) is used as the tiebreaker. Examples will be posted in this forum in a few minutes. I need to enter some data into a spreadsheet and post it in a different browser...

The current rule regarding team size is that a team should be less than 250 players at the beginning of the season. There is no current rule saying teams cannot grow beyond the initial size. Teams which are currently bigger than 250 players are not breaking any rules. This may change for the next season, but for now we've had enough discussion in the notes about it. If you can't control your urge to continue talking about it, please use this forum instead of the group notes.

There has been some discussions in the group notes on how we can keep this tourney for small teams (under 250 members) because of some teams massively exceeding the ideal limit. Lets discuss this in more detail please. One suggestion was to maybe put an "age" restriction on teams having say been created for at least 6 months ...

In order to get an accurate registration for the 2010 season, all teams wanting to enter must register in this forum. Guidelines: Teams should have no more than 250 members. There is room for at least 32 teams in the current format, and larger numbers can be accomodated by making larger 1st/2nd round pairing groups. Teams competing in the World League or TM League are not eligible for TM Championship. Please post the following information.
