Changes from CSC 2013 to CSC 2014: Previously, all teams had to have completed at least 5 vote chess games to be elligible for tournaments. Now, teams may join if they have completed only 1 vote chess game. In Part 1 I described how it is decided how big the groups are and how many advances in the groups. In part 2 I will explain how the pairings are made afterwards and I will illustrate it with an example, but I'll start with an important note. note: There might be adjustments to: Prevent teams to face eachother at different rounds Prevent winners from the previous round to face eachother if the 2nd place teams advanced in the previous round as well. Prevent the same teams to be put into bigger groups for several rounds. If we assume we have 14 teams remaining. This is because the pairings will be based on these ratings (not their points from previous round). Also unrated teams will be treated like they had 1200 rating. When it is 2 games/opponent it will be one game with each color and when it is 1 game/opponent it will be specified what team plays black or white. In the diagram I have pointed out who is black/white by adding "W" for white or "B" for black. For example team A is supposed to play black against team E and white against team I and team M. The format for what color each team will have will always look that way for group sizes of 4. Previusly I have quite shortly writtened "The format is subject to change depending on participants". This is mainly because I have invented my own format system which suits the tournament where I want X teams to advance in each round, about equal sized groups and guarantee participants to get 2-4 games/round. This is part 1 which explains how the format is made with the number of advancing teams and group sizes, while part 2 will be about how the teams get paired in the groups. Rather than explaining each detail on how the system is made up I will put a diagram below with all possible amounts of players in a round and leave it up to the reader to find the pattern I have used. It's also notable that in ties both team advances (more teams than planned can advance) and that in the final both will be considered winners in case of a draw. Top 32 teams advance If there are more than 48 teams the tournament director might chose to either have an extra round using the same system or have a qualifier round. With 18 teams in CSC 2012 and 14 teams in CSC 2013 we will probably not get in that situation in the near future. Also, in the first round if there are 18-23 teams special pairings can be made to add up to 5 rounds instead of 4 and eliminate less players in the first round. Top 2 teams advance One last thing is some special cases when it is time for the final round. The match for bronze will only be played if there are 2 teams fighting in the final, not if 3 teams are in the final. Everyone playing for bronze (2-5 players) will play in a single group where the winner get's bronse. Next up is to do the pairings in the groups and that can be seen in part 2
