Which do you prefer?: a) Leave the pieces in the diagrams the way they are and continue flipping the board. votes: 5 b) Make it so that the pieces in the diagrams are all facing up, but don't flip the board. votes: 5

Make sure you track this topic so that you know when it is your move. White goes first, then green, then black, and then red. Black and white are on team A and red is on team B with green. Teammates may not capture eachother's pieces. Note: the rules are different in this one: In order for a team to win, they must capture both of the opposing team's kings. When a king is captured, his pieces cannot move. The rules in this variant are capture king, so if you move into check, too bad. Post your move using algebraic notation. The first post (this one) will have a move list and a picture of the board. Every time I see a new post, I will update the picture of the board and turn it so that the side who's turn it is comes up in front. As soon as you join the game post something so that I know. The game will begin as soon as we have 4 people ready to go. Have fun! Players: White (Team A): Green (Team B): preachingforjesus Black (Team A): Chessy4000 Red (Team B): orinoco_w Move List:

Teammates may not capture eachother's pieces. When you checkmate a king you can either take control of the army (beware: if one of the kings is checkmated or if both are attacked in one turn, you are out completely. Also if you do this, you do not recieve double turns.) or if are not a risk taker, you may leave the pieces inert (that means they do nothing). Post your move using algebraic notation. Gravity chess is a variant were all the regular chess rules apply, but there is an additional rule added. There is an imaginary gravitational attraction to the a file, so that after any peice moves, it will move down it's file as far as it can. Eg:
Knightmate (also called Mate The Knight) is a game invented by Bruce Zimov in 1972. This is a variant in which the knight and kings switch roles. There are four kings on the b and g files and a single pair king on the e file. The kings are no longer "royal" and thus may be taken without the game ending. The objective is therefore to checkmate your opponents knight. Pawns may promote to kings, but not knights. A website you can play this variant on is http://www.pathguy.com/chess/KnightMt.htm

Hi everyone, I created a forum with one competition for each new variant available in v3. In case anyone is interested, here is a link: https://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess960-chess-variants/chess-variant-competitions
Hello, fellow chess variant enthusiasts. I'm interested in playing a correspondence bughouse chess game. Please be aware that I will not be able to play a move every day, but hope to be as diligant as possible. Anyone interested, please reply and I will work out the teams.

Game over. Preachingforjesus defeated ichabod801 by resignation. Ever played pacman? You know how if you off of the left edge of the board you come out on the right edge? Well now your chess pieces can do the same thing! It is as if the board is wrapped around a cylinder. A knight on h4 can move to a6. If you play 1. g3, then that pins black's d pawn. Post your move using algebraic notation. The first post (this one) will have a move list and a picture of the board. Every time I see a new post, I will update the picture of the board and turn it so that the side who's turn it is comes up in front. Make sure you track this topic so that you know when it is your move. As soon as you join the game post something so that I know. The game will begin as soon as we have 2 people ready to go. The next version of Economy Chess software is being made and is expected to be ready December 2012/January 2013! The game can be downloaded for free in the chess.com downloadsection. Economy Chess is a chessvariant in which you conquer the squares of the board simply by moving onto them. The more squares you control, the higher your income gets. Gain coins based on your income each turn and spend them to reinforce your position with new material on the backranks. Spend - or save - your money wisely! If you want to keep track of updates join the Economy Chess group! The rules of the game (video/text) can be found there as well, and you can challenge others using the current available software. While you're at it, like Economy Chess on facebook! Furthermore a ladder is starting when the new software is available. A ladder is a tournament where you can challenge others and join and leave anytime. Sign up here!
Would anyone like a game of Seirawan chess? In addition to the normal pieces, each player has one elephant (a rook-knight compound) and one hawk (a bishop-knight compound). Details of the game can be found at http://www.seirawanchess.com/ and at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seirawan_chess I don't mind which colour I play.

I call it... oinquarkichess. Each player has 16 pieces: 1 king, 1 queen, 2 rooks, 2 bishops, 2 knights, and 8 pawns. The goal of the game is to checkmate the other king. Checkmate happens when the king is in a position to be captured (in check) and cannot escape from capture. Each of the 6 different kinds of pieces moves differently. Pieces cannot move through other pieces (though the knight can jump over other pieces), and can never move onto a square with one of their own pieces. However, they can be moved to take the place of an opponent's piece which is then captured. Pieces are generally moved into positions where they can capture other pieces (by landing on their square and then replacing them), defend their own pieces in case of capture, or control important squares in the game. The king is the most important piece, but is one of the weakest. The king can only move one square in any direction - up, down, to the sides, and diagonally. The queen is the most powerful piece. If moved she can move in any one straight direction - forward, backward, sideways, or diagonally - as far as possible as long as she does not move through any of her own pieces The rook may move as far as it wants, but only forward, backward, and to the sides. The bishop may move as far as it wants, but only diagonally. Each bishop starts on one color (light or dark) and must always stay on that color. Knights move in a very different way from the other pieces – going two squares in one direction, and then one more move at a 90 degree angle, just like the shape of an “L”. Knights are also the only pieces that can move over other pieces. Pawns are unusual because they move and capture in different ways: they move forward, but capture diagonally. Pawns can only move forward one square at a time, except for their very first move where they can move forward two squares. Pawns can only capture one square diagonally in front of them. They can never move or capture backwards. If there is another piece directly in front of a pawn he cannot move past or capture that piece. Pawns have another special ability and that is that if a pawn reaches the other side of the board it can become any other piece (called promotion). A pawn may be promoted to any piece. The last rule about pawns is called “en passant,” which is French basically means “in passing”. If a pawn moves out two squares on its first move, and by doing so lands to the side of an opponent’s pawn (effectively jumping past the other pawn’s ability to capture it), that other pawn has the option of capturing the first pawn as it passes by. This special move must be done immediately after the first pawn has moved past, otherwise the option to capture it is no longer available. One other special rule is called castling. This move allows you to do two important things all in one move: get your king to safety (hopefully), and get your rook out of the corner and into the game. On a player’s turn he may move his king two squares over to one side and then move the rook from that side’s corner to right next to the king on the opposite side. In order to castle, however, it must meet the following conditions: it must be that king’s very first move it must be that rook’s very first move there cannot be any pieces between the king and rook to move the king may not be in check or pass through check As stated before, the purpose of the game is to checkmate the opponent’s king. This happens when the king is put into check and cannot get out of check. There are only three ways a king can get out of check: move out of the way (though he cannot castle!), block the check with another piece, or capture the piece threatening the king. If a king cannot escape checkmate then the game is over. Customarily the king is not captured or removed from the board, the game is simply declared over. Occasionally games do not end with a winner, but with a draw. There are 5 reasons why a game may end in a draw: The position reaches a stalemate where it is one player’s turn to move, but his king is NOT in check and yet he does not have another legal move The players may simply agree to a draw and stop playing There are not enough pieces on the board to force a checkmate (example: a king and a bishop vs. a king) A player declares a draw if the same exact position is repeated three times (though not necessarily three times in a row) Fifty consecutive moves have been played where neither player has moved a pawn or captured a piece. Starting position:
Allow me to introduce these new chess pieces i have invented. From left to right, up to down: The cannibal: it has the moving ability of the knight and the king and can capture pieces of the same colour The ghost: It has two forms - ethereal and material. When etherial, rather than occupying squares in the usual way, it occupies the corners of squares and can move like a queen. In this way it can "phase" through other pieces. When in material form, it occupies squares as normal and can move like a king. It then on top of it's already stated moving ability can move half a square diagonally, thereby transitioning from one state to the other. The pacifist (it should really be a dove, shouldn't it?): It jumps two square orthogonally or vertically, but cannot capture. Only useful for blocking attacks. The spy: every time you move it, there is a one in six chance it will change colour. The werewolf: it alternately moves like a queen and knight The coward (ironic symbol): Moves like a rook or knight, but is too cowardly to move into harms way, and so cannot be moved onto a threatened square. CComments, questions?
Anyone up for a game of Kazan Chess? Following are the rules: After a piece moves, a friendly man who can move to the vacated square may do so and so on. Here's an example: Anyone up for a game? I'll play either color.
I have an Idea that I have been working on for a new chess variant (curr4ent name is Seriwan Omega Chess, but will entertain Ideas for new names). The Idea combines the 10x10 board of Omega Chess (without the wizard squares) and the piece dropping of Seriwan Chess) The following is a list of the chess pieces in thier relative order of significance and their abreviations: K = King A = Avatar Q = Queen E = Elephant H = Hawk R = Rook B = Bishop C = Cavalier W = Wizard = Pawn The initial position is with in hand two wizards and one eacb of an elephant, hawk and avater; pawns starting on the second rank; the back rank with the following order: R C N B Q K B N C R When one of the pieces on the back rank moves the first time you may drop a piece from hand to the suare just vacated. when castleing, if you drop a piece you may only drop one and you must drop it in the square the king just left. notation is: Bh4@W for example. Please do not post comments until Ihave finished posting the moves of the pieces.
