Sixty-Four Squares Group Ladder WolfStriker1 luqmaan KesterF <defending v. lLenn> Redspecial <must defend> lLenn <challenging v. KesterF> aabbccdd crhnine Malaysian Games in Progress: lLenn v. KesterF So now that the tournament is over and we have our places set in the rankings, we can get this ladder started. Here are the ladder rules as I can figure would work out best: To move up the ladder, you must challenge someone of a higher ranking. To issue a challenge, send me a message with the person you want to challenge. If multiple people want to challenge the same person, the first to message me first has the right to challenge. Challenges cannot be refused, or the challenger will automatically win. The players then play a game with random color choice and time limit of 1/day. If the defender wins, the defender holds his place and the challenge falls down a rung. If the challenger wins, then the results differ based on the difference between the two player's rankings. If there is a difference of 1-3 rungs, then the two players switch. If there's more than 4 rungs difference, the challenger goes up three rungs and the defender goes down three. Draws: if there is three or fewer rungs between the players, then the players' rungs remain the same. If there is four or more rungs between the players, then the higher-rung player remains in the same rung, and the lower-rung player moves up one rung. Players will alternate defending and challenging. If a player just challenged, then they must wait for a challenge to defend before challenging again. The ladder board at the top will keep the order of the rankings, say who is currently playing who, and who is available for challenges. Please post if you have any ideas, suggestions, criticisms, or notice potential problems. If you did not particapate in the tournament but wish to be in the ladder, message me and I'll add you at the bottom of the ranking list.

Basically, the only rules for the group are to help the team perform at it's best. It will be added to as necessary. Team Vote Chess 1. For Team Vote Chess, do not vote until there has been discussion and a general consesus on the proper move to make. Expections would be for forced moves or moves that just make sense. Understandably, you can't be on always at the last moment to check other teammates ideas and preferences for moves, but do your best. 2. Make sure you post the anaylsis and reasoning for the moves that you like. Sometimes, what seems like an clear choice for one, is not for another. In additional, this will allow others to improve by seeing good reasoning for a move and point out problems in others. If possible, use diagrams since they are easier to follow than just text.   Feel free to suggest others.
This game starts off in a very irregular fashion, but eventually turns into a typical French position:

Hi everybody, The team matches are off and running, and we've definitely got strong competition here, which is very good for testing and developing our chess. I've finished my first game, and thought I'd post it here for comments / criticisms. Hope you enjoy! Good luck to the rest of you in your matches

Opposite bishop endgames tend to be drawish, but here's one I just played out that didn't end in one:

Just wanted to gauge how many would be interested in playing in a team match sometime fairly soon.

Hello again everybody, I thought I'd post this game, where I ended up in a position that I always wish I could achieve. Sometimes, it's just nice when it all comes together! As always, comments and criticisms are welcome. Well played by everybody in the tournament!

From a recent game where my opponent moved the pawns in front of his castled king, creating opens that allowed me to get a powerful attack after a piece sacrifice.

Here's an endgame from a recent finished game. I've really been working on my endgame since I think it's one area I needed really to improve upon. If anyone has any critisms, I'd like to hear them so I can fix problems.

Sort of a follow up to the last thread about winning from seemingly impossible situations - here's the game between me and aabbccdd in the ladder tournament. I put white in check at move 13 and then all of a sudden the game was over, I was quite perplexed and it took me a moment to realise that aabbccdd had resigned. So what I, and aabbccddd, would like to know is - was this too early to resign?

Hi, In preparation for the upcoming ladder tournament, I thought I would post a game with a moral, namely, stick at it even when it looks entirely hopeless. You never know! Good luck in the tournament!!

I just finished this game up so I figured I would post it. I ended up getting piece-odds from a bad blunder by my opponent, but it was still a good game. Here's the game with my analysis. If anyone can see any better plays or has comments, feel free to post.

Eventually, a Olympid style team competition will be introduced on chess.com, using the board system. So if two teams compete, the best player from each team will play on Board 1, the second best from each team on Board 2, and so on. I don't think it has been made clear whether the boards will be pick automatically based on rating or if the team can choose those players. Should it be the second, I was thinking of starting a ladder for our team. I was wondering if there was any interest in that?
